One of the nicest free WordPress themes I have found recently is Absolum. it is a really cheerful clear theme, that can turn a dull looking site into something that looks interesting and fun.

Absolum is produced by the good folk at Theme4Press. Although it looks very simple, it offers a wide range of options once you have it installed.

On of the features I most like is the very well formatted implementation of the WP Gallery feature which allows you to preview images and add captions.

On top of this, the theme allows you to switvh the sidebar from the right to left, or disable it altogether. You have a choice of foru subsciber buttons, and can choose between many fonts, There is a complete customisable menu, and six areas for widgets, and also a theme visual editor.

All in all, this is a great theme, that reminds me somewhat of the early and not so complicated versions of Thesis, but it looks better.

There are several choices if you’re looking for a WordPress theme builder software, but without a doubt Artisteer is the best and most robust software on the market today to create templates for WordPress sites.

Without a good software, creating a WordPress theme is quite complicated and will take a lot of time. However, Artisteer allows you to create some really attractive templates within a very short time. Artisteer can also be used to make templates for Joomla!, Blogger blogs, Drupal, and DotNetNuke sites.

Some of the Artisteer features include some fabulous header and background graphics and plenty of layered design options. There are also a number of Flash headers included. The latest version of the software allows you to build themes with fluid layouts, so they look good regardless of the device the site is being viewed on.

Artisteer is great for beginners because when you start the program and begin your first project Artisteer will suggest a design to get you going. This can be a design for the entire website or just a particular part of the site such as the menu, sidebar, header or background.

Once you have created your theme it is very easy to upload it to your WordPress site, as all you need to do is export the theme and save it as a zip file on your hard drive. The you login to the WordPress dashboard, click on “appearance” then “themes” and select the tab that says “Install themes”. Once installed, you just need to activate the theme, and you are done.

Just like with any other software, getting to know your way round Artisteer does require some learning; albeit relatively little compared to others software of this nature.
